Doggie Delights

I decided to venture out in the land of dehydrated dog foods recently. I was looking for something to add to my girls food not only for fun flavor but for added nutrition. I needed something that was gentle on their stomachs and specifically had some good fiber. A friend told me about "the honest kitchen" products. I started exploring the different supplements and decided to taste test their "Preference.

This is all dehydrated veggies, fruit and vitamins. All you do is add some to their regular food with some water. The girls absolutely LOVED it! I am going to buy more. They have a bunch of other flavors you can choose from and a variety with added dehydrated meats too.

So I just put a scoop of the mix in their bowls....

Add the warm water to it....

Then I add 1 Tablespoon of organic pure pumpkin. The benefits of pumpkin for dogs I recently found out is amazing. It's great for tummy troubles, helps regulate their digestive system, helps in preventing cancer, great for urinary tract health, immunity....the list goes on.  The girls think it's am extra special treat, they love it!

In Memory of Blu "Droolio"

1.00$ - 5.00$ Donation for the Doggies

In Loving Memory of Blu "Droolio"

May 2, 2001 - January 12, 2012

I have been part of the A&B group ever since I adopted my frist setter Juno last year.  I haven't dipped my feet into rescue until November of last year when I volunteered to foster my first A&B dog Lucy - which we ended up failing and adopting into our family. I've been able to read some amazing stories as well as some really sad ones while being a part of this group.  You may not all know me very well but I have cried with some of you in your losses of your sweet family dogs over this past year.  I have laughed at your funny stories and worried, and cried with you all.  I've prayed for you and your furry friends from afar.  A&B has truly become a family to me.  After hearing about Blu's passing my heart was overwhelmed.  I had read many e-mails prior of other dogs in the group passing away, and also remembering Bella the sweet female A&B tried to pull from the shelter, but ended up having a very underserved, unexpected short life.  I set my hear that "if" Jon and I took another dog into our home, being foster, or temp...the next dog I would help rescue would be in honor of Blu and others who have lost their sweet babies.  For any of you who would like to donate to A&B in honor of Blu and other beautiful setters who have passed this year, I know it would make a difference. A&B puts out a lot of money and we wouldn't have our furry friends if it weren't for people who donate small amounts to make a difference in saving a life.  My temp foster Colby is a great example of a beautiful life not wasted.  A&B paid to spare him from a dim future, starvation and possible death.  He is a beautiful boy just like all of the fosters A&B has been saving.  I have so much respect for this group and ALL that you do!  It makes me have a very humble heart to know that I play a very small part in this big picture!

The Day I Gotcha Girl!

Happy "Gotcha" Day Juno!
March 6, 2012

A year ago today, I brought Juno into our lives and it hasn't been the same.

I must thank Juno's foster mom, Roxane (from Iowa) who has now over the past year, become a very dear friend of mine. She took Juno in, gave her a warm place to sleep, a house full of canine and feline friends to play with and the chance to learn what the good life is all about!

Here are some pictures from a little over a year ago of Juno in her foster home in Iowa. She's playing with Roxane's dogs, Tex, Pollee, and Caroline.

Also, I can never thank Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue enough for all their hard work, the transport volunteers, & temp foster homes that made Juno's trip possible!

Here are some pictures of Juno on her transport a year ago!

I remember the weather was horrible

Up close and personal - yep - that's Juno!

The long journey...

First class - travel with a bone!

March 6, 2011....I will never forget the anticipation and excitement, even after hours of driving up from FL to PA. I couldn't stand it anymore.  I am not a very patient person by nature, so I just wasn't going to stand waiting another week to wonder "if" her transport would fill. It was a tough route and gas prices were high.  I had to have Juno in my arms. It was a very rainy, chilly morning when we met Jane in Ashland, VA.  There she was! Beautiful and perfect. Juno was more than I had imagined she would be. It was love at first sight! It's true what they say about dogs, they can heal a soul... Mend hearts and teach you new things about life. I felt an overwhelming sense of excitement and peace all balled up in one. I felt like I could breathe having my new best friend in my arms at last. Juno with her huge heart and HUGE paws, loved me for me...she looked at me with those big brown eyes and I felt the bond. I think she could sense she was home....FOREVER!

The first time I ever laid eyes on my girl

After hearing that Juno wasn't the biggest fan of men, we anticipated that it would take a while for her to warm up to Jon. Well, yeah that did not happen. She instantly took to him. Like when I brought her to his work that same day we brought her home she saw him and RAN to him!!!

Loving the beach & Jon with his farmers tan!

And as all you know...it's a year later, and then there were two!

Happy Gotcha Day Juno, my sweet girl! We love you so much!
